Summers provide an invaluable opportunity for learning beyond campus. To both complement and supplement courses offered at Yale-NUS, CIPE is pleased to offer the Summer Academic Scholarship (SAS) to support attendance at credit-bearing academic programmes abroad in any academic area. Scholarships are up to SGD $5,000.
We encourage students to select programmes with the following criteria in mind:
Applications for partial language study (for instance as part of a summer school course load) will be considered. However, they will not be privileged due to the scholarships already available to Yale-NUS students through the Chinese Language Scholarship funded by the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation, the Santander International Experience Scholarship for Spanish language study and the Summer Language Scholarship (SLS).
To learn about some well-established summer programmes that you could attend, this list provided by the NUS International Relations Office (IRO) serves as useful reference (note, however, that you are by no means required to select a programme from this list).
You will need to apply directly to these programmes yourself, and not through NUS IRO or CIPE. As CIPE continues working on developing its own database of programme listings in the upcoming months, feel free to refer in the meantime to websites of study abroad offices at other liberal arts colleges in the U.S. Feel free also to reach out to relevant faculty or Fang Wei (email@example.com) as you research programmes.
Click Summer academic programmes of past scholarship recipients to see a list of programmes that scholarship recipients have attended in the past.
For information on whether and how summer courses can count toward a major or minor, see “Do I get academic credit for the classes I take over the summer?” under the Summer Study Abroad section at the CIPE Summer Opportunities FAQs.
Full-time enrolled Yale-NUS students in good academic and disciplinary standing are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Successful applicants will demonstrate the following in a 300-400 word essay:
Wondering what the review committee is looking for in an application? Check out our Summer scholarship application tips. It has the essence of what we share with students in advising sessions.
Acceptance into this scholarship is conditional upon your participation in a 2-day Pre-Departure Orientation in end April and submission of reflections post-summer.
